Day to Day, Featured, Wine

blogbig1Approaching the stadium, this past Saturday, there was a definite buzz of excitement in the air. Soccer fans were dressed in colourful regalia, smiling and laughing, with vuvuzelas in tow. Finally, it felt as if the Soccer World Cup 2010, in South Africa, was actually a reality. We were there to witness the opening of the Cape Town Stadium, in preparation for the World Cup later this year. The organisers have scheduled a number of test events to put the Stadium through its paces. Saturday saw local sides Santos and Ajax compete in this historic stadium opening.

Backsberg was the supplier of wine for the VIP hospitality area for this game. It was really special being part of such a historical event.  We’ll be there for the next test game 2, which features a rugby festival on the 6th February. I can report that the stadium looks absolutely incredible and no doubt supporters are going to treated to a feast of soccer entertainment come June.

They made 20 000 tickets available for this first event and the rugby is going to see 40 000 visit the 68 000 capacity stadium. I took some snaps of the game which you can see here.

Cheers, SB
